In the summer of 2026, the UvA will switch off the 'UvA' Wi-Fi network at all education and research locations. From then on, staff and students will use eduroam exclusively. This will make the wireless network simpler and future-proof.

What is going to change?

  • The 'UvA' Wi-Fi network will be phased out and switched off.
  • Eduroam will become the only standard Wi-Fi network for all staff and students.
  • On UvA-managed laptops (ICT workstations), eduroam will automatically be set as the default.
  • On privately managed laptops, you can configure eduroam via the Wi-Fi portal (wifiportal.uva.nl).

What you will notice?

Do you already use eduroam?

Then you will not notice any changes. You are already all set.

Are you still using the 'UvA' network?

From the summer of 2026, this network will no longer appear in the list of available Wi-Fi networks. You will then select eduroam and log in with your UvA account (username and password).

Have you used the Wi-Fi portal before to configure Wi-Fi?

Your device is probably already prepared for eduroam. In many cases, it will switch over automatically. Are you still experiencing problems? Then you can reset your Wi-Fi profile via wifiportal.uva.nl.

What do you need to do?

For privately managed laptops, you can already switch to eduroam:

  1. Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
  2. Select eduroam.
  3. Log in with your UvA account (username and password).

In many cases, you only need to do this once. After that, your device will automatically connect to eduroam at all UvA locations, as well as at other educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.
