Your opinion matters. Halfway through the teaching period, before the break, lecturers will conduct informal mid-term evaluations with their students. These evaluations offer a valuable opportunity for the class and teacher to check in, discuss how the course is progressing and identify any adjustments that may be helpful.

AUC distinguishes between two main formats: a class representative approach or a lecturer-led conversation with the whole class. Regardless of the approach, students are also able to complete a midterm evaluation form anonymously.

Class representative-led discussion

Each class should designate two student representatives to lead a 15-minute discussion on the course’s strengths and areas for improvement. The representatives will gather the main points raised by the class and discuss these with the lecturer.

The suggested timeline is flexible and may be adjusted to suit the course structure. Ideally, representatives are selected between 28 September and 2 October. They would then lead the class discussion during the following week and meet with the lecturer afterwards. The Class Representatives Guidelines and Steps document provides further details on the process and timeline.

Lecturer-led option

Lecturers organise a conversation with students on topics relevant to their course to obtain insight into how students have experienced the course thus far.

Midterm evaluation forms

The midterm evaluation forms will be distributed digitally or in hard copy to collect feedback. By allowing students to complete the form individually and anonymously, additional opportunities are created for all students to provide feedback, including those who may not feel comfortable sharing their views in the classroom.

Purpose of mid-term evaluations

The mid-term evaluations are an informal part of our quality assurance. They facilitate discussion between the class and the instructor, providing both with a moment to ‘check in’ with each other. The purpose of this evaluation is not to flag major issues with classroom management or methods of teaching instruction. If you are experiencing problems with how your course is taught, it is recommended you first discuss these in person with your lecturer. Should the issues you experience persist, you can reach out to the relevant Head of Studies or submit a complaint via AUC's complaint procedure.

Thank you for participating and for your feedback! If you have any questions about the mid-term evaluation procedure, please contact us.
