All students have access to one or two communal/shared spaces: a shared living room and/or balcony near their string. These collective spaces are managed by the string and its representatives in line with the rules and regulations.

There are three courtyards outside, and three event spaces that can be used for AUCSA and other activities that are meant for all students. Almost every tenant in the dorms also has access to one or two communal/shared spaces: a shared living room and/or balcony near their string.

The event spaces and courtyards are open year-round, but the shared living rooms and balconies close over the summer when there are less students around. In order to keep each shared space clean and tidy, and to “manage” the collective use of each shared space, a string representative must come forward to take this role. They will receive the keys to the space and manage the agreements between users of the space.

DUWO and AUC will inform the string representative of the rules and regulations, and after receiving the training each year in September the string representative will get an extra magnetic key to open and close the shared space. The string representative role lasts one academic year. Each year during the introweek, the recruitment period opens when we try to find new string representatives. A string representative is more than welcome to re-apply for multiple years.

Please mind that the string and the string representative are collectively responsible for the proper use of the space. DUWO checks the spaces regularly and a shared space may be closed if they are not treated well.
