Safety on campus

Whenever the Academic Building is open, security personnel are present at the entrance for your safety and security. Be aware that the buildings are considered public and are open to visitors, so you should always keep a close eye on your personal possessions. Do not leave your bag or laptop unattended at any time. AUC assumes absolutely no liability for the loss, theft or damage of personal possessions of students and their guests in the Academic Building or student residences.

In the student residences, the DUWO caretaker, social warden and technical manager help DUWO to monitor their buildings and provide services to their tenants. You can contact DUWO on any issue regarding the residences. The Resident Assistants, while not considered professional first responders, are also available for assistance in emergencies and situations with safety needs.

• Immediate assistence / life threatning: 112
  If you need immediate assistance or if there is an imminent threat to life then call 112 for the emergency services.

  If you witness or are the victim of a crime, you are encouraged to report it to the police. Emergency number is 112; non-emergency number is +31 (0)900 8844.

  If you observe that a threatening or dangerous situation is developing, or you feel threatened or unsafe, anywhere on campus, including the AUC student residences, you can contact UvA Security (24/7 control room) at +31 (0)20 525 2222.
  If you are suspicious about something in the Academic Building, report it immediately to the security officer/receptionist at the entrance or call UvA Security at +31 (0)20 525 2222.
• In case of fire
  In case of fire in the Academic Building, follow the instructions on the emergency notices posted in every room. Tell the security personnel about the nature of the emergency and its exact location. They will take the appropriate steps to contact police, fire brigade and other emergency services as necessary.
