Your opinion matters! Halfway through the 16-week period, lecturers are requested to conduct informal evaluations of their courses with their students. Student feedback can be a reason to make smaller or bigger adjustments to the course or the class activities in the second half of the semester.

Lecturers can conduct the mid-term evaluation in different ways, but there are two main possibilities:

  • Option 1: Class representative led discussion
  • Option 2: Paper evaluation forms, and conversation with class.

The timeline for option 1 is flexible depending on the course structure, but suggests that within the weeks before the class-free week from 16-20 October, each class will designate two representatives who will then lead a 15-minute discussion in class on the strengths and weaknesses of the course. The class representatives then meet with the lecturer to discuss the main issues identified. Class representatives enrolled in specific team-taught Academic Core courses send a summary of the class discussion to the course coordinators, to enable a joint and cohesive approach within the teaching team to course adjustments.

For option 2 you are kindly invited to fill in the recently amended paper evaluation forms that are handed to you by your lecturer. Your lecturer will engage with the feedback you share on the forms in a subsequent class. This can be in the form of an in-class discussion.

Purpose of mid-term evaluations

The mid-term evaluations are an informal part of our quality assurance. They facilitate discussion between the class and the instructor, providing both with a moment to ‘check in’ with each other. The purpose of this evaluation is not to flag major issues with classroom management or methods of teaching instruction. If you are experiencing problems with how your course is taught, it is recommended you first discuss these in person with your lecturer. Should the issues you experience persist, you can reach out to the relevant Head of Studies or submit a complaint via AUC's complaint procedure.
