It’s a busy time of year, so we’re bringing you a whole week of relaxation and de-stressing activities designed to help you recharge. Whether you’re looking to take a quiet break, enjoy some yoga, or unwind with friends, we’ve got something for everyone.

The “Take a Break” Space (Common Room)

 Visit the Common Room all week to help you de-stress

During the Final Strech Week, our Common Room will turn into a space that you can always count on to relax you! The various activities we have planned for you will take place here but you will always find something in this space to help you take a break during this week.

  • Colour & Calm Station: Colour mandalas and other templates to relax and unwind.
  • Cozy Cup Corner: Enjoy free tea and hot chocolate as well as healthy fresh fruit.’
  • Unwind Lounge: Take a study break in comfy bean bags and a relaxing space.
  • The Play Zone: Unwind by playing games with your friends (Nintendo, Jenga, Chess)
  • 1000 Piece Puzzling: Pick up the puzzle where someone else left off!

Monday 1 December
  • Talk to an SLO | 11.00 – 16.00 | Common Room

    This week the SLOs are offering more than just their typical office hours. On Monday and Thursday, you can talk to an SLO at any time by just dropping by the Common Room.

    Note: they’ll be happy to move to a more private space with you – just let them know!

  • Free Yoga Class | 16.00 – 16.45 | Common Room (sign-up required)

    Enjoy a free yoga class that can be done in your normal clothes! Our yoga teacher, Marliene, will guide you through 45 minutes of relaxation and stretching.

    About the trainer

    Marliene Stolker, known to many as our International Office Coordinator, is also a certified yoga instructor specializing in Vinyasa yoga. With years of practice and a passion for student well-being, she offers a relaxing class designed to reduce stress and bring you back into balance.

  • Study Session by Peer Support & AUCommunity | 17.30 – 19.00 | Common Room

    Peer Support and AUCommunity will be guiding your through a one and a half hour study session where focus will take the centre stage. Together you can motivate yourselves to stay engaged and keep going.

Tuesday 2 December
  • Take a break at the Holiday Market | 11.00 – 18.30 | Common Room

    All of Tuesday, AUCSA’s Art will be hosting an art market. This is an opportunity for students to showcase and sell their artworks and other handmade objects!

    This year Art is also collaborating with other AUCSA committees. Couture will bring you clothes and jewellery, Cuisine holiday treats and AUCommunity will give you the opportunity to personalise holiday cards. Dormsessions will also be participating with a vinyl roulette. The market will create a cosy atmosphere for attendants to enjoy the holiday spirit.

    Take a break from your busy week and come soak up the cosy atmosphere!

    About the trainer

    Originally from South Africa, Julia Duff Hundermark is a passionate yogi who practices Ashtanga and teaches Vinyasa yoga. Her class is grounding and designed to help you build your yoga skills while releasing stress. Join her to reset your mind and move with intention.

  • Snack Handout by Peer Support | 12.45 – 13.45 | Common Room

    Find Peer Support during Friday's lunch hour to get a free snack and an encouraging note to prepare you for your final week of the 16-week period!
