For all first-year students starting in the 2024-2025 academic year
18 July 2024
You can choose from two courses to meet the requirement:
Whereas Programming Your World caters to students from all majors with no prior experience in programming, Intermediate Programming has been designed for students with existing but basic programming experience (in any programming language). AUC intends to expand the list of courses from which students can choose to meet the requirement in upcoming academic years. You can therefore also choose to wait and complete the requirement after your first year at AUC.
Please note that each course can only count for one degree requirement. E.g. taking Intermediate Programming can count either as a major degree requirement or as a programming degree requirement.
In 2022, AUC launched its new strategic vision called AUC NEXT. As part of this vision, we announced the introduction of a new degree requirement focussed on programming. Foundational programming skills comprise important 21st century skills for all graduates. Moreover, a programming degree requirement supports AUC’s profile as a Liberal Arts and Sciences programme with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity. This informed the decision to implement the programming requirement in the 2024-2025 Academic Standards & Procedures.
You can find the new Academic Standards & Procedures below. The transition document lists all the changes that are implemented compared to the previous AS&P:
