5 March 2025
First-year students who selected their rooms last summer now have the option to participate in the internal move and select a different room in the student residences. A detailed email with all the necessary information and instructions on how to sign up will be sent to you in March. The new room selection will take place in the first week of May. Please consider that by signing up for the internal move, you will commit to giving up your current room, meaning you cannot change your mind and decide to stay. Those who have been allocated a room or are looking for a room due to a medical provision will not be allowed to select their own room. It is also not possible to participate in the internal move if you have outstanding rent arrears.
There will be an internal moving fee of 26 EUR that needs to be paid in March, and you must be on campus between 15 July and 18 July to return your keys and move into your new room. Also note that your rent may be higher due to signing a new contract for your new room and the rent increase in 2025. The national rent increase will be lower for continuing contracts. These items will all be explained in the email you’ll receive.
For third-year students, it is important to prepare for your fixed move-out date: the current contracts will end on 15 July 2025. There are no extensions possible, meaning you will need to vacate your room by this date. For those requiring an additional semester of housing, a waitlist will open in mid-April. A room through the waitlist is not guaranteed, and we encourage all third-year students to start searching for an alternative room as early as possible if you know that you will need housing beyond 15 July in the Netherlands. If a room does become available via the waitlist, it will not be the same one you currently occupy, and any new contract will begin on 1 August 2025 in a different space based on availability. Should a room become available, the earliest you would expect to hear back would be from 7 to 10 July, or only in August, after any potential cancellations have been processed. Priority will be given to fourth-year students with a full-time course load. Further details will be shared in the coming weeks, so be sure to check your email.
If you will continue to live in a four-person apartment next year, then you will again be allowed to select your future roommates through an online housing mixer with the new first-years. Once the deadline to sign up for the internal move has passed, we will know exactly which current first and second years will remain in a four-person apartment. We will contact those students to write up a profile and share some photos of your apartment. The housing mixer is expected to take place in mid-May.
